Working Through Triggers

Have you ever been just minding your own business and something is said or played over the radio that sends your world into a tailspin? I mean one moment you are fine and the next moment your heart is racing, you feel light headed, or you're having trouble catching your breath. Sometimes when we have trauma we can't always identify what sets it off. Was it a song or something someone said? Either way we have been triggered by something and it feels terrible.

This has happened to me. It creates great anxiety or a panic attack. Neither option feels great. Triggers come from deep-seated trauma within us. We are trying to heal but that healing takes time. When we hear, read, or see something that triggers us we react as if we are not safe. This happens even if we are safe. So what can we do to help gain our balance again?

I have a free anxiety worksheet on my website, where I have shared some helpful tips that will help you through this sudden burst of anxiety. Please download it and see if there are some tips that may help you. You do not have to be owned by your triggers. It's all about perspective. Triggers can also remind us about how free we are now...and how much we never want to go back to that cage. Finding this perspective takes practice. I am here to walk with you through this journey. I am always here.
