Deconstruction and Relationships

When you began your deconstruction journey did your relationships begin to change? Did you lose friendships? Did your marriage struggle or crumble? Throughout my time as a Life Coach, this has been a continual topic. Personally, I have lost relationships since deconstructing. Unfortunately, many people walking through deconstruction have experienced this often.

So, how do we handle relationships as we go through this deconstruction process? Here are a few tips which may be helpful:

  • Communication. Make your points specific and clear.

  • Be Honest. You are discovering what you believe or do not believe.

  • Value Yourself. Understand that if friends or family abandon you because you are questioning or leave religion that is on them, not you. If someone walks away from you because you do not believe the way they do, that says everything about them and little about you. As painful as it is, you need to let them go. Clinging to that relationship will only bring more pain, and length the healing process.

These tips are just a few which will help you through the deconstruction relationship process. Of course, there are many different types of relationships with varying nuances to each. Not all your relationships need to crumble. Some people will surprise you by standing by you. Some relationships will even grow stronger. If you would like for someone to walk through this process with you, please let me know. Stay strong and realize you are not alone.
